The NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets is celebrating the New York natural fiber industry with a limited edition Great New York State Fair belt bag for 2025. A special collaboration with Battenkill Fibers and Lilly Marsh Studios. Handmade from sheered wool to loving stitch. These bags are a love letter to historical craftsmanship and locally sourced materials.
Marsh quickly found her community amidst the fiber farmers, local wool processors and textile artisans of the Upper Hudson/ Adirondack region. She became a founding member of the Hudson Valley Textile Project, a group of farmers, processors, artisans, designers and fiber enthusiasts who are working to strengthen the fiber supply chain of local cloth production. Battenkill Fibers is committed to our customers and to our community. We embrace and respect the nature, history and culture of our place on the land in the Hudson Valley; and strive to sustain this rural heritage for future generations. We furnish access to local processing for farmers, unique materials for hand crafters, and authentic experiences for visitors to the region and school groups. The mill produces 100-150 lbs of artisan quality natural-colored and dyed semi-worsted yarn daily using refurbished traditional milling machinery.
